Many users of newly launched Pixel 2XL were complaining about some display issues on the device. These issues include faded colours, image retention, screen burning and bluish tint on display. After so many reports Google has officially said that they were investigating the reports of issues.
On Monday they released the report of different issues on Pixel 2 XL and what are the various reasons. You can read it here how Google responded it.
On the display’s colours, Google VP of Engineering Seang Chau says:
“We’ve received some feedback about the Pixel 2 XL displays not appearing as saturated as other phones. We attribute this perception to our choice to calibrate the Pixel 2 XL for delivering natural, accurate colors, taking advantage of the new color management support in Android 8.0 Oreo.
ased on the feedback we’ve received since announcing Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, we learned that some users do want even more vibrant colors. So, through a software update to Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, we will soon be adding a new “saturated” color mode.”
Now the Google is going to provide a software which adds a “saturated mode” in the settings. The device already has a “Vivid” mode, but it doesn’t do much, it only boosts the colour saturation by 10% only.
On the “burn-in” effect he says:
“We’ve received reports of Pixel 2 XL devices exhibiting image retention on the screen and have been actively investigating them. Extensive testing of the Pixel 2 XL display show that its decay characteristics are comparable to OLED panels used in other premium smartphones.”
Now with the upcoming update, the nav bar buttons at will fade out when not in use. They are also dropping the maximum brightness by 50 nits which should reduce strain on the display.
According to Google, the update will be rolled out to the Pixel 2 XL in coming weeks. Let’s see how these software updates fix the customer complaints.
