Google announces developer preview of Android 8.1 Oreo

Google has released the latest developer preview of Android 8.1 Oreo which is only available for those who have enrolled in Android Beta Program. A stable release of Android 8.1 we can expect to roll out in December. This developer preview is only available to android Beta users only with compatible devices which includes Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel C, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL.

The highlighting feature of the Android 8.1 is the new “Neural Networks API” (NNAPI), which Google says “provides apps with hardware acceleration for on-device machine learning operations.” This new API brings hardware-accelerated inference to the device to execute previously trained machine learning models quickly. This API bring calculations to the CPU of the device which reduces latency and load on the network.

The new Android 8.1 is an iteration of Android 8.0. It brings changes to notifications in which apps can only make a notification sound only once per second. And now the Easter egg of Android Oreo looks like an actual Orero (cookie).

Android 8.1 update is now supposed to activate the Pixel Visual Core SOC on the pixel 2. This image processor helps in post-processing of images which include HDR+ and portrait mode of Pixel 2 will now available to third-party developers.

If you want this latest update in your device, then you need to have a compatible Google phone. Then you need to visit the Android.com/beta and opt as a beta tester. Then you will get this update.
