Yu Yunique Review: A Pocket Dynamite Smartphone

Micromax Sub-brand Yu Televentures announced Yu Yunique exclusively on snapdeal. Saurabh Sharma GM of Devices at Micromax said, “ We are planning to sell 5 lakh units by the end of the Diwali “. So the big question is Yu Yunique the best android phone under 5000? To find out, we have been testing this device from past one month. So let’s do the review of Yu Yunique.

Box Contents

Yu Yunique comes with a USB charger, a phone, basic earphones, user manual and a warranty card.

Design

Optimized-yu4

Yu Yunique has a sleek design with the really good form factor. The phone is comfortable to hold in one hand. Personally I prefer 4.7 Inch devices which are sleek and feels good in the hand. You can feel the comfort ness  as soon as when you hold this device. There are no touch buttons instead you have on screen buttons. The power button is in between volume rockers.

Display

Optimized-Yu1

The Yunique features a 4.7 Inch 720P Display with Gorilla Glass 3 support. The display looks great, gives sharp colors and no issues with the viewing angles. There is no way to avoid fingerprints on this device.

Hardware

Optimized-yu6

Yu Yunique packs 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 Quadcore processor with 1 GB RAM. Internal storage is up to 8 GB and has 32 GB expandable storage. YU has managed to pull off such specs under 5k is just phenomenal. The hardware is decent for the price you are getting.

Performance

Optimized-yu5

Coming to the performance, Yunique does a pretty good job at handling multiple apps. Games played quite well but faced little frame drops at the initial stage. The subway surfers played without any issues, Asphalt 8 is playable at low settings, but it does lag at high end settings. The browsing was decent but not that great. Thankfully unlike other YU devices, YU Yunique does not heat at any point of time. The touch responsive was smooth as a butter. It runs on top of Android Lollipop 5.1 with stock Android experience. The bugs were less compared to Yuphoria with CyanogenMod.

Camera

Optimized-yu3

YU Yunique sports 8 MP rear camera and a 2 MP selfie camera. The camera on the back has a centric design with LED flash support. If you consider the price tag, the camera performs well. In daylight conditions, the color output is sharp and crispy. No issues with focusing and even the face detection were speedy. The shutter speed is snappy and works like a charm. Even in the artificial lighting, the phone won’t disappoint you. LED flash coverage is good which helps in overall picture quality. At low conditions, the camera struggles a bit to find the right combination.  The selfie camera performed well than expected. The 8 MP camera can record 1080P videos, but I didn’t find video quality that great. The camera lacks stability while taking videos. Overall I was satisfied with the camera.

Battery

The battery performance is decent which can last a day. Even on heavy usage, it can give 12 hours of battery life without any issues. It takes 2 hours to reach from 0% to 100% charge.

Conclusion: YU Yunique is a Pocket Dynamite Smartphone which performance very well. If you have 5000 bucks, just go and buy from Snapdeal. Remember the phone is exclusively available on Snapdeal without any registrations.

  • Yunique looks nice, a considerable smartphone in that price. I just feel that YU should have rendered the camera looks a little bit. The style is same as yuphoria.
Its just yunique == yuphoria just with little less specifications.
