Google to make over its unsuccessfull Android One project

Google’s Android One project was launched last year to target Indian audience. The Project aim was to bring low-cost smartphones with stock android experience. Google partnered with Indian OEM’s and launched its Android One devices in India. Initially, it got fair response and gradually the sales were declined.

Android One smartphones got serious competion from brands like Xiaomi, YU, Coolpad and Infocus. The competitors were offering much better specs compared to Android One devices. Google’s plan was to sell sub 100$ cheap devices with quality hardware but eventually didn’t work well.

Now, Google to make over it’s project and relaunch it in next year. According to the reports, next generation Android One smartphones could cost as low as 50$. According to Wall Street Journal, Google has given the license to choose variety of components from its own vendors. The OEM’s will have the freedom to price the product. That means Google will have less control over the hardware and software.  Let’s see how it goes with second gen of Android one smartphones.
