Realme 2 Upgrade or Downgrade?

After all so many leaks, Realme has finally launched the Realme 2 smartphone in Inda. But is it truly an upgrade? The Realme 2 is the cheapest smartphone on the market that comes with a notch.

The Realme 2 sports a 6.2-inch HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio along with a notch. Despite having a notch, the display is a downgrade as compared to the previous version because the Realme 1 packs the Full HD+ display. The Realme 2 is powered by the Snapdragon 450 SoC which is budget chipset from Qualcomm and used in budget phones like Redmi 5. This is one of the major downgrades in the Realme 2 as the Realme 1 is powered by the Meditek Helio P60 chip which is one of the best mid-range SoC and comparable to the Snapdragon 636.  The device comes in two versions with either 3GB RAM plus 32GB storage or 4GB RAM plus 64GB storage along with a dedicated microSD slot.

On the imaging front, the Realme 2 is an upgrade as it offers a dual camera set-up (13MP+2MP) on the rear with AI Beautification 2.0. There is also an 8-megapixel front-facing selfie shooter with the HDR support. The battery on the Realme 2 also gets a slight bump as it is now 4,230mAh batter. The device runs on Oppo’s Color OS 5.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. One of the major upgrades in the Realme 2 is the presence of a fingerprint scanner as it was missing in the Realme 1.

The Realme 2 will be available in three different colour options  Black, Blue and Red. You can purchase this device exclusively on Flipkart in flash sale and the first flash sale will be held on September 4. The base 3GB+32GB model comes at a price of Rs. 8,990 and  4GB+64GB version is priced at Rs. 10,990.
